February’s Plant of the Month: Croton
What to watch out for: They will lose their leaves or their leaves will decrease in vibrancy if they are not getting enough light.
Water: They like to stay moist but not soggy. Let the top few inches of soil dry out and then water deeply letting the water run out the drainage holes at the bottom of the container.
What to watch out for: If they get too dry, they will wilt. Once they start losing their leaves, they are hard to rejuvenate.
Food: Fertilize once a month in the winter and twice a month in the summer. Ask us for fertilizer recommendations!
Other Conditions: They do not like extreme changes in temperature. They need to be in a warm spot with a lot of light. They do not like to get cold. Talk to us about how to prevent and treat mealy bugs which these plants (and many houseplants) are susceptible to.
